Yesterday, I attended the last Rainmaker’s main event for the decade. The theme was health and fitness. Rainmakers are one of the largest open networking groups is the Indianapolis area. They also cover several major cities in Indiana and are expanding into Ohio and Kentucky in 2010. The organization started seven years ago and hosts 50 events a month. Once a month, they invite the membership to participate in a “Main Event” that offers table space for business members to showcase their products and services, music, hors d’oeuvres and a special speaker to give the members information to grow on. It has been no secret that this past year small businesses in Indiana have been struggling during the economic down turn. The focus of the meeting is that the economy will turn around and there are a lot of good people looking to be part of the business community and are now available.
The main speaker was Nancy Ahirichs. She presently works for United Way of Central Indiana. The topic of her speech was on how to work with multiple generations in the work place. Each generation has different beliefs and motivations. The most senior group is the Veterans; they are hard working, willing to make sacrifices. The youngest group would be the generation Y’s. They are able to multitask, their highest priority is time. My generation is the baby boomers. According to Ahirichs we are hard workers motivated by money.
Understanding how we can all work together to make this new decade one of prosperity, hope and security for our families is something we all have to work on in this upcoming New Year. Keeping in good health is probably a great start. Networking with others is defiantly a good move. Setting goals and keeping your resolutions in front is the probably the best way to go.
I wish all my readers a Happy and Prosperous new year and decade. Happy 2010!
